Details

A fabulous antique Suffragette brooch from the early 1900s depicting a three-leaf shamrock fashioned in 15ct gold with a scrolling, open-work, Art Nouveau design.

It’s decorated with white pearls, three violet amethysts (approx. 0.22ct each) and a central green peridot (approx. 0.60ct) which together make up the colours associated with the women’s Suffrage movement and symbolise; Violet for Loyalty, White for Purity and Green for Hope, or Give Women Votes!

Shamrocks have long been associated with luck and good fortune and each leaf represents faith, hope and love. They were also a symbol of Ireland and Saint Patrick who used the image to illustrate the Holy Trinity, one leaf for the Father, one for the Son and one for the Holy Spirit.

The brooch has remained in excellent condition and is a wonderful token from such a pivotal turning point in British history.
